Nevada State Conference on Problem Gambling April 12-13, 2012
As I look forward to numerous upcoming educational programs focusing on Problem Gambling, the Nevada State Conference scheduled for April 12th & 13th at the Las Vegas Gold Coast, stands out as a premier event of the year! nevadacouncil.org/2012_conference.php? I am looking forward to sharing the stage Friday afternoon with Ted Hartwell as we each present our viewpoint on advocacy and social change in problem gambling. Ted will share his personal approach of one-on-one advocacy as I share from the lens of a national advocate for social change in problem gambling. Regardless of the platform or the scope, every recovering gambler who speaks out makes a difference toward collective societal change.
As always, the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling has put together a stellar program including experts in the field of addiction studies such as Dr. Bo Bernhard and Jeff Marotta, as well as Certified Problem Gambling Counselor Dan Smith and Dr. Tim Fong. I am especially intrigued by the unique lineup of this year’s conference, as it seems to focus on the humanity of problem gambling. Panel presentations include families in recovery from both sides of the addiction – the gambler and their family members as well as a panel discussion featuring Doug Crawford who’s landmark case in Las Vegas was the first to successfully enact NRS 458A, Nevada Problem Gambling Diversion Program in Clark County.
